Licensing Program Overview.

SPSS Inc. is the maker of a statistical package called SPSS as well as many other statistical tools.  On a yearly basis we buy volume licenses of the following products:

  • The latest version is SPSS v16.0 for Windows XP/Vista.

The SPSS license only encompasses the following modules:

  • Base product.
  • Regression Models (a.k.a. Professional Statistics) add-on module
    (Factor, cluster, quick cluster, discriminant, reliability, weighted least squares, two stage least squares).
  • Advanced Models (a.k.a. Advanced Statistics) add-on module.
    (Logistic regression, MANOVA, loglinear, hiloglinear, unconstrained nonlinear regression, constrained linear regression, GLM-type loglinear, probit, kaplan-Meier, Cox regression, macro library).

The vendor carries other products (e.g. allCLEAR, SamplePower) and additional SPSS add-on modules (e.g. SPSS Tables, SPSS trends). They are NOT covered under the license, nor is SPSS for Macintoshes.

Authorized Users & Sites.

This licensing program is only available to departments - not to individuals.
The software must be installed on computers which are i) owned or leased by the University, and ii) controlled by the University.

Extra Documentation.

The university bookstores and booksellers carry manuals, guides, books, etc. If you need original SPSS manuals, then visit their on-line bookstore at: http://www.spss.com/estore/softwaremenu/index2.cfm

Extra Media (CD-ROM, disks).

Off campus departments who lack a network connection may borrow the CD to install.  Any valid user may order a copy of the CDs (please order TWO of part # 109184, $6/each and add comment such as: media for latest version of SPSS).

Home and Portable Copies.

Departments must purchase separate licenses for their portable computers.   Home use by full-time employees is permitted.

Separation Line

Licenses Expiration and renewal.

SPSS licenses may be purchased at any time. You have up to the yearly expiration date to download the software.
SPSS products run on a yearly basis. Licenses legally expire for everyone each year on Dec. 1st.
Practically speaking, licenses keep running for up to a 60 days grace period past Dec. 1st.
Once a license expires you must purchase a new license to keep using the software.
