What is a Site License?
A software site license is the right to download a software from a server to a single computer.
Software site licenses are full, current versions of software.
The main differences between software licenses and retail packages are:
- University departments may purchase licenses - usually not students,
staff, faculty.
- Licenses are much cheaper than full retail software packages.
- They do not entitle the user to any documentation or manual.
- They usually do not entitle the user to any media (CD-ROM, disks),
- Licenses are only offered in English/US language.
- Most often licenses do not include vendor phone support.

Then What Happens?
Once we receive a requisition, within 24 hours we generate an account and password.
We mail installation information on a pink slip to the delivery address listed on the requisition.
If you do not receive such pink slip (installation instructions) within three (3) days for UNL users, or eight (8) days for remote users (e.g. UNK, UNMC, UNO, etc.), then CALL. Do not wait two to three weeks or longer.
The recipient of the pink slip connects to the server and downloads the software, OR
Occasionally we contact the recipient to arrange for other means of delivery.
At the end of the month we send a delivery (billing) ticket to the purchasing department.

Volume Discounts.

Requests.
University departments may want to buy software licenses from vendors not listed on this web site. We will accommodate requests for products that would qualify as worth licensing. Call for details.
Qualification.
A software may qualify as worth licensing when:
- Computer Sales sold at least 25 copies in the last twelve months, and
- The licensing cost is at least 30% below the cost of the academic package.
Specialized Software.
In some instances, a department may need a very specialized software, not sold through the regular retail channel. As long as the department is willing to pay for the 1st year of the licensing program, we may:
- Carry and sell leftover licenses on behalf of the department.
- Reimburse the department for licenses sold, minus our cost.
At the end of the 1st year, the department and us would review our options and:
- Keep the status quo, or
- Computer Acquisitions would become the primary licensor, or
- Computer Acquisitions would stop sub-licensing the product.

Free Licenses.
Some licenses may be free when the University signs a University wide licensing agreement with a vendor (e.g. Lotus Notes, anti-virus software, etc.)
In such cases the software is usually made available to all University current students, staff and faculty at no cost, and may include 'home use rights'.
Anti-Virus Software.
For details, visit UNL AntiVirus web site at http://antivirus.unl.edu/
Lotus Notes.
Lotus Notes is the new email system that will eventually replace 25 email systems currently in use on campus. The University's policy is to switch all email users to Lotus Notes by the end of fiscal year 2001.
Today we offer Lotus Notes mostly as an email system to faculty and staff.
