Licensing Program Overview.

ESRI is the maker of ArcView, ArcInfo, etc.  These applications are powerful Geographical Information Systems (GIS).  The University licensing agreement covers some (not all) of ESRI products.

Yearly International Users' Conference.

As part of our licensing agreement, ESRI also grants the University 5 (five) complimentary seats to their yearly ESRI International Users' Conference.

- Free registrations are provided on a first request first serve basis.

Authorized Users & Sites.

This licensing program is only available to departments - not to individuals.
The software must be installed on University owned computer(s), and computer(s) must be located within University facilities (including all campuses and extensions).

Extra Documentation.

ESRI directly sells manuals, guides, etc. to the public.  The ESRI web store at  http://store.esri.com/esri/ lists some books, manuals, guides, etc. but not all!?

Call their TeleSales phone number at 1 (800) 447 9778 ext: 2050, and specify which book your want (e.g. 3D Analyst User Guide).

You may receive up to a 40% discount by stating that your are a University Of Nebraska licensed user and by providing our site number.

Our site number appears in the "read1st.txt" file you read when downloading license(s).

Extra Media (CD-ROM, disks).

We can duplicate CDs for off campus departments lacking a network connection.   You need to be a licensed user to order!  See below, Pricing Information paragraph, for stock # and descriptions.

Home and Portable Copies.

Home use is forbidden.  The primary user of a computer on which the Software is installed, can install a 2nd copy of the software on a portable computer.

Licenses Expiration and Renewal.

ArcInfo licenses expire on July 27th of every year (plus 30 days grace period).
Other ESRI licenses are not subject to expiration dates.

You may need to provide specific information (e.g. host ID) when ordering some ESRI licenses.  See notes next for further information.

- ARCINFO licenses are priced per seat.
- ARCINFO licenses include all extensions, BUT users may need to purchase a few extra CD sets to install some extensions  (e.g. ArcSDE).
- To order ArcInfo for UNIX platforms, always specify number of seats, hardware platform, system type, O.S. version, station name and ID.

On-Line Technical Information.

The vendor provides technical information on the World Wide Web, including:
    - Technical Notes
    - Forums
    - Software Library.
    - Technical Hardware Guides, etc.

Be Prepared.

When you call for technical support, be at your computer with the following information:
    - Name and version number of the product.
    - Type of hardware, including network if applicable.
    - Exact wording of any message that appeared on your screen.
    - Description of what happened and what you where doing at thetime.
    - Description of how you tried to solve the problem.

Vendor Phone Support.

None available.  Only persons accredited as technical contacts may call the vendor.

Training.

Virtual Campus Training: Free Courses.

ESRI  offers free GIS courses (requires Java/JavaScript enabled) at:

Users directly enroll to the courses, as described at:

Virtual Campus Training: Fee Based Courses.

Our ESRI Higher Education Site License also grants us unlimited/free ESRI Virtual Campus Training Subscriptions.  To take advantage of this offer, users must:

  • Visit the ESRI web site  at http://campus.esri.com  (requires Java/JavaScript).
  • Lookup the COURSE CATALOG for VIRTUAL CAMPUS courses.
  • If the course reads "This is a free course", then see the above Free Courses section for enrollment.
  • If a course is fee based (e.g. $100), then contact one the persons listed below to request a free course activation.
    NOTE: Unfortunately, not all fee based courses are available under this program, and the list of truly available courses changes so often than we cannot keep an up-to-date list.
